Honegger, Arthur
(n. 10 mar. 1892, La Haya, Francia–27 nov. 1955, París).

Compositor francés. Nacido de padres suizo-franceses, estudió en Zürich y luego en el conservatorio de París. Fue uno de los integrantes del llamado Les Six, aunque no simpatizaba realmente con sus objetivos. Ganó por primera vez renombre internacional con su oratorio El rey David (1921). Su apasionante pieza para orquesta Pacific 231 (1923), retrato sonoro de una locomotora, causó sensación. Prolífico toda su vida, compuso cinco sinfonías (como la Sinfonía No 3 llamada Litúrgica, para conmemorar el fin de la segunda guerra mundial), el oratorio Juana de Arco en la hoguera (1938) y numerosas partituras para ballet, teatro y películas (entre ellas, Napoleón de Abel Gance).
